Back in 1999, Fiona Sutton, a mother of five and experienced music teacher, had an idea. Combining her passion for music and head for business, Fiona came up with The Music Bus – a high-tech mobile music classroom. The Music Bus name and concept was officially launched in 2008, and the Music Bus team haven’t looked back since. These days, The Music Bus boasts a fleet of 23 busses that visit more than 250 schools throughout QLD, NSW, Vic and ACT every week.
History
-
Can I come to watch my child do their music lessons?Parents are permitted to watch the class in action from outside the bus provided they are not disturbing the class. No parents are permitted on the bus as space is limited.
-
Do classes run in school holidays or on public holidays?Classes run during school terms only. There are no classes during school holidays. There are no classes (and you are not charged) on Public Holidays.
-
Do I need an instrument at home? The Music Bus provides all instruments and equipment for the lesson. Whilst it is quite ok to try our lessons without having an instrument at home, it is recommended that your child has access to a home instrument as soon as possible so that he/she can gain maximum benefit from our program. A basic keyboard or guitar is not overly expensive and is a valuable investment towards your child’s musical success. The Music Bus can advise you on a suitable instrument. Go to our shop for options!
-
How much does it cost?Lessons are booked on a school term basis and are $22.00 per week. (Drums $24) – payable by the term upfront on commencement. Students are required to purchase a Music Bus starter pack in their first term of learning for $30.
-
Do I need to stay while my child is on the bus? There is no requirement to stay but we do ask parents of children in after school classes to ensure that they arrive to pick up their children before the scheduled finish time of the lesson. Our teachers often have to travel to another school and any delays means children at the next school could be left unattended.
-

How do I speak to my child’s teacher?Due to the quick changeover between classes it is not always possible for our teachers to chat after class. If at any time you need more feedback please call our office and we can arrange for our teacher to contact you.
-
How long are the lessons?Lessons are of a 30 minute duration held once a week during term time
-
How often does my child need to practice? We recommend that to get maximum benefit from the program your child practices 10-15 minutes 4-5 times per week.

Can I get a refund/credit?We do not offer refunds for change of mind, illness/injury, lost interest or any other reason that prevents you from attending the lessons available. You pay for the spot for a term or the remainder of the term. We do however offer make up lessons when available if your child has missed a lesson for any reason. If Music Bus has changed your lesson time and it no longer suits your schedule then you can get a full refund. This does not happen often but sometimes it is beyond our control. If we have cancelled a lesson due to teacher sickness or any bus maintenance issues you receive a make up lesson if available, if not available you will be credited for that lesson.
-
How do I enrol for next term? The enrolments roll over to the next term automatically so if you already have an enrolment with us then you will already be enrolled for next term! If you are a new customer please contact us to go on our waiting list.
-
The class I want is full, what can I do?You can go on our waiting list for both new and existing classes and we will be in touch as soon as a space opens up. Please contact us and we would be more than happy to assist you with this!
-
What do I need to bring to my lesson? We provide all instruments and equipment on the bus! All new students receive a 'starter pack' (book and bag) in their first lesson which they take home to practice with so once they have received this then it's just a matter of bringing their Music Bus bag on their lesson days!
